809event

809event is 809's interdisciplinary public programme - a cultural gathering that brings together practitioners from different artistic disciplines and communities into a shared process of exchange, experimentation, and co-creation. It exists deliberately between day and night culture, operating in the territory where the intelligence of club culture and the rigour of artistic research meet. It is the platform's primary research site for both the question and the method: can event production be approached as collective creative production - and can a public event, in its entirety, be treated as a piece of artistic work?

The programme unfolds across four rooms: the Jam Room, the Experimental Room, the Exhibition Room, and the Chill Room. Each carries a general orientation; a leaning, a tendency, but no fixed atmosphere or predetermined outcome. Each room is a condition and what it becomes is determined by who enters it and what they build together.

. . . the process

The event is built through a residency - a concentrated period of collective development in which everyone involved in making the night works within the same conceptual framework simultaneously. Artists, creative collaborators, and the full production team all enter the same process: each carrying their own practice and creative logic, each working toward the same event, each moving through the same concept from their own position within it.

What 809 has developed across five volumes, building events collectively over months of meetings and gatherings, artistic and production decisions developing together through ongoing dialogue - is here given a dedicated structure: a defined period in which that collective process is the primary work. Preproduction establishes the stable technical and logistical ground that makes this possible. The residency itself is where the creative work happens, personal and collective simultaneously, each team following their own process while remaining in genuine relation to the others through shared moments, exchanges, and the conceptual framework that runs through everything.
